24 Hour Salad

6 cups shredded lettuce
½ cup celery (chopped)
½ cup green bell pepper (chopped)
½ cup onion (chopped)
½ cup frozen green peas (thawed and drained)
1½ cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp sugar
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
3 oz bacon bits

Mix mayonnaise and sugar together.  Layer ingredients in the order listed, topping with mayonnaise mixture then cheese and bacon bits.

Cover and refrigerate 24 hours before serving.
